The Redding #7 shell holder is distinct from the more common #1 shell holder. While many reloaders attempt to use a #1 (standard .30-06/.308) for the 6.5x55mm, the Swedish Mauser actually has a slightly larger rim diameter (approx. .480″ vs. .473″).

Using the correct #7 holder prevents the “slop” or tilting that can occur with a standard holder, which is vital for maintaining concentricity during the resizing stroke. It is machined to a precise “deck height” of .125″, ensuring that when the die is set to touch the shell holder, the headspace remains within SAAMI or CIP specifications.
