The 18mm height (measured from the top of the rail to the bottom of the scope tube) is an “Extra-High” profile. This is typically required for scopes with very large objective lenses (56mm to 60mm) or when mounting on rifles with a continuous full-length Picatinny rail where extra clearance is needed for the objective bell and sunshade. The Thumb Screw (M) locking mechanism provides a robust, hand-tightened connection that can be easily checked or adjusted in the field without specialized tools.
