The Steyr CL II Varmint “Special Production” is engineered to extract the full performance potential of the .223 Remington cartridge. By utilizing a 635 mm cold-hammer-forged barrel, this model ensures a complete powder burn for heavier long-range projectiles, resulting in significantly increased muzzle velocity and flatter trajectories. Unique to this variant is the inclusion of integrated open sights on a heavy-profile barrel, providing a robust backup sighting system or a primary option for close-range stalking in dense cover.

The rifle utilizes the Safe Bolt System (SBS) with its 3-position rotary safety, physically blocking the firing pin and allowing the bolt handle to be locked flush against the stock for a snag-free profile. The Forward Set Trigger (Kombination trigger) allows the shooter to switch between a crisp standard hunting pull and a hair-trigger “set” mode by simply pushing the blade forward. Housed in the SX synthetic stock with its integrated aluminum bedding block, the heavy barrel remains fully free-floated, ensuring repeatable sub-MOA precision regardless of temperature or humidity.
