When the patch is pushed through the bore, this “spongy” texture compresses into the rifling, lifting and trapping carbon, lead, and copper deposits.

The round shape is a tactical choice: it avoids the “corner bunching” that can occur with square patches, providing a more consistent 360-degree seal against the bore wall when used with a spear-tip jag. These patches are highly absorbent, meaning you use less solvent per cleaning session because the material carries the liquid more efficiently. They are also rugged enough to withstand heavy scrubbing with a bore brush if wrapped around the bristles.
