The Steyr SM12 Mountain (often referred to in Europe as the “Goiserer” model) is the compact flagship of the SM12 family. Chambered in the low-recoil .223 Remington, it is optimized for precision varminting and small-to-medium game hunting. The 508mm cold-hammer-forged barrel features Steyr’s signature spiral forging marks and a match-crowned muzzle for exceptional accuracy.

The hallmark of this rifle is the Hand Cocking System (H.C.S.), which allows the user to manually cock the internal firing mechanism only when ready to fire, providing the highest level of safety while carrying a round in the chamber. The “Mountain” configuration is housed in an elegant European Walnut stock featuring a “double flame” Bavarian cheek piece and a slim-line housing that reduces weight while maintaining a classic look. The rifle comes with a fine-tuned trigger (often featuring a forward set option) and Steyr’s proprietary Mannox finish for superior weather and corrosion resistance.
